Princeton Clothes for a Princeton Day

After a lengthy computer science project and yet another paper on pop culture and death, my Reading Period work came to an end. Excuse our appearance if we seem a little scroungy, Dean’s Date is always a messy affair. To combat the stress and in celebration of our second to last Dean’s Date, Lucas and I sported Princeton colors in preppy staples.
I love all of interesting details on Princeton’s campus. The first window is behind The Bendheim Center for Finance, and I would be willing to bet that very few people know about it since it’s so tucked away. It’s very picturesque in a stone cottage sort of way. It probably doesn’t hurt architecturally that Bendheim used to be an eating club. As for the ivy-colored wall, it’s so easy to pass by it and never notice it since it’s at the busy intersection of Washington and McCosh. I love the way the ivy triangulates — it reminds me of the Secret Garden in a way.

Finals Haze

14/365: Sometimes I get so distracted during the day that I don’t remember to take a photo until I’m going to bed and the choice of aesthetically pleasing or interesting subjects has gotten very slim. In my delirious state of exhaustion I decided to attempt a stereotypical bathroom mirror shot.

15/365: I’m not sure if you can tell, but I love lavender. These cabbages in front of the club add such a lovely pop of color.

Lewd Behavior and Carousing

As one of our last events as a joint officer corps, we threw a Speakeasy themed party on Saturday night. The night was very fun – not too stressful, not too crowded, just good people and good times. My childhood best friend and fellow officer, Liz (the girl with the curls) and I went home to scavenge for twenties-esque dresses and found that we both owned a surprising number considering how unflattering the silhouette usually is. I love the way our outfits turned out (that’s the benefit of going to school close to home – larger closets)! Lucas took the occasion to debut the new orange and black bowtie that my parents bought him for Christmas, coupled with his new burnt orange J Crew pants. Our friend and fellow officer Josh’s girlfriend was in town, and she’s one of nicest people I know. Plus, she has the most gorgeous red hair which popped against her beautiful dress – great for pictures! Our friend Olivia, Lucas’ replacement as Social Chair, borrowed a dress and some accessories from me, and the two of them look great together in their 1920’s outfits. I’m going to miss making publicity material for the events – the fonts were so fun to play around with on the poster. Still, I know we’re leaving the club in capable hands.
I’m counting this series of photos as my daily photos for my 12th and 13th days since some were taken after midnight (sneaky, I know) and yesterday was too much of work crunch day to snap any photos. Shh. Don’t tell.

Feeling Dotty

The day was pretty mild for January, so Lucas and I decide to take outfit photos outside. I’m slowly experimenting with modes other than auto-focus. Lucas helped by taking the photos of me instead of forcing me to grapple with the tripod. Photography is a nice break from working on papers, though, which is all Reading Period seems to be (when I’m not procrastinating, that is). I’m slowly but surely fighting the urge to retreat into sweatpants, but it’s an uphill struggle. There’s nothing like a good topnot and sweats to make one feel wonderfully pathetic.

Experimenting with Pixlr Express

I don’t have Photoshop on my personal computer, only my family’s home computer, so while I’m at school, I usually have to use online photo editing services like Pixlr. For these past few photos I experimented with their Express program, which provides pre-made filters, borders, overlays, etc for your pictures, and involves a lot less time than editing each element by hand. While I ended up wishing that most of the filters were more subtle, I do like how quick and easy it is to get a stylized photo. Most of my photos this week were taken at night and inside. Next week I want to make a more conscious effort to take photos in the daylight and outside, which has been difficult so far because it gets dark so early and it’s so cold.

Part of Lucas’ bowtie collection. He’s up to fifteen in a year since I bought him his first two last December. Oops.

My skirts – I like to hang up all of my clothes (or at least as many as I can), in order both to see them better and to pick outfits out better.

Our eating club hosted a senior networking dinner at the Princeton Club of New York on Tuesday. I managed to snap this blurry photo of the sunset from the bus window.

This last photo is a bit more playful – its a photo of the paper mache rhino head that hangs over my bed. In case you can’t tell, Lucas and I both like fake taxidermy a little too much. I cut the background of the rhino out from two pieces of paper bought at Paper Source, although, if I ever wanted a more permanent frame, I saw that Michael’s has some cute and ornate wooden frames. I used a “vintage” filter from Pixlr on it and then added a bunch of bokeh hearts. It’s a little bit absurd, but I like the way it feels like I’m in a music video with a disco ball covered in glass hearts. Maybe I should make one of those…

Best,

Ginny
